Cardinal Heenan became a Specialist Sports College in September 2001. All specialist schools have a main objective in improving attainment and achievement and this has been successfully achieved in our first four years. There are many characteristics of our success as a specialist school and not all of them are to do with Physical Education or Sport. We have seven partner primary schools and two partner secondary schools with whom we are closely linked, sharing expertise, training and facilities. We are about to begin a second term of four years as a specialist school.

We mean to carry on the excellent groundwork and intend that within our second period of designation we develop “One School”, “where the boundaries between school and local community become increasingly blurred; it will pave the way for the time when the school is opening its doors, real and virtual, all day every day to both students and community alike. These are exciting times, and with the link to Building Schools for the Future, the prospects for further development are bright.
