Cardinal Heenan was designated as a Specialist Sports College in 2001. As a result, we were able to build upon its success both in physical education and sport as well as academic performance across the whole school. Through outreach work, we are able to establish programmes with both primary and secondary partners in relation to both the physical education curriculum and out of school hours sport.

The outreach role has 2 core objectives:

• Raising Standards - using our specialism, sport as a tool to raise standards across the whole school and in our partner schools.
• Increasing Participation - working towards the government target of 5 hours high quality physical activity and sport for all 4 – 19 year olds.
