Wednesday 13th January saw the launch of the Students Delegation to Shanghai at the Town Hall. The project was launched by the Leader of the City Council, Councillor Warren Bradley. The plan is to send 62 students in groups of 12 during the period of the World Expo in Shanghai. Two students have been selected from Year 10 from all the secondary schools in Liverpool. This will be the biggest Trade Fair ever. Over 170 countries will be represented and certain selected cities, of which Liverpool is one. We are the only UK city to have a dedicated pavilion at the Expo. Over 70 million visitors are expected and Shanghai has spent more on the Expo than Beijing spent on the Olympics.
The Expo will take place from May 1st until October 31st. Students will be going for a week in May, July (two groups), September and October. We are avoiding June because of exams and August because of the heat and humidity. It is the experience of a lifetime for the students who will not only be sightseeing but they will also be working in the Liverpool pavilion acting as ambassadors for the city.
