Lunch Arrangements

We do not allow pupils in Years 7 to 11 to leave the school premises during their lunch break. If your son leaves school at lunchtime we cannot accept responsibility for any injury or difficulties that might arise. We are unable to exercise our duty of care if we do not know where your son is or what he is doing. Therefore your son has one of two options open to him. He can either have a school lunch or he can bring a packed lunch. Details of our on-site canteen and deli menus can be found here.

Which buses can my son get to and from school?

A number of public bus routes run very close to the school: 15, 61, 361, 102 and 10.  Please visit the Merseytravel website to find out more, thank you.

If your son is travelling on a public bus each day to school we would like to stress the importance of safe and sensible behaviour on these trips, we certainly do not want accidents to happen nor do we wish to receive complaints - your son is a representative of the school whilst in uniform.

Dropping your son off at school

Some parents may wish to bring their sons to school by car, but we would advise against it for the following reasons:

  • Honeysgreen Lane is a very busy and narrow road
  • We are located in a residential area and our neighbours frequently complain that parents are blocking their driveways and cutting up the grass verges
  • We are also very close to Alder Hey Hospital and Broughton Hall High School so the area is very busy, particular just before/ after school
  • The school has only one access road for vehicles and this often gets blocked by cars on the school run.

For these reasons, we would strongly recommend that you do not drop your son off directly outside the school gates.  Thank you for your co-operation.

What is the school's attitude to attendance and punctuality?

We think that they are so important that we will reward with certificates over the year and prizes at its end.  Regular attendance at school, punctuality in arriving at lessons on time, giving of your best once you are in the classroom are good habits to have in place for when your son leaves school - we would certainly expect to comment on them in any reference we wrote - and invaluable ones to have here and now if he is to get everything he can out of his time with us.

Reporting Absence

If your son is going to be absent for any reason you should phone the school on 0151 228 3472 Ext 250 or follow the instructions on the voicemail to leave a message, to inform us of the reason for, and likely duration of, the absence. If your son is absent without the school being notified then we may contact you.

All absences have to be explained so when your son returns to school a note or phone call.  Unexplained absences are recorded as “unauthorised” and will attract the attention of the Attendance Manager who may in turn refer the absence to the Education and Attendance Welfare Officer for further action.

What about holidays?

The school, our governing body and the local authority expect pupils and their families to take holidays during the school vacations. Whilst we appreciate that there might be rare instances when you have no option but to take your annual holidays during the school term, two weeks is the absolute maximum period permitted.

If you are planning to take a holiday during the school term, you must complete the appropriate request form before the holiday (this is a legal requirement by the council). Retrospective applications will not be considered. The Headteacher will them inform you by letter if the request has been granted. These forms are available from the school office.

Applications for leave of absence for any other reasons should be made using the same procedure as outlined above.

Medical appointments should be made, where possible, out of school hours.

What about training days?

In addition to the normal school holidays we have five staff training days during the year. On these occasions your son will not attend school (though staff do). Dates of these training days will be sent to you at the earliest opportunity. Please note they might very well not take place on the same days as those of his brothers and sisters and they will not necessarily be on the first day of each term.
