Overview

At Cardinal Heenan Sixth form we offer Applied and A Level Psychology courses. Both courses cover the foundations of psychology as well as a range of topics such as, Forensic Psychology and Psychopathology.

Aims

One of the aims of our curriculum is to develop skills such as self-management and reflection whilst giving students the opportunity to complete their own practical research project in Psychology. Students will also explore different perspectives on human behaviour and be given opportunities during teaching and learning to practice developing employability skills and understanding areas of applied psychology.

Curriculum

The exam board for your Psychology course is AQA for A Level and Edexcel for Applied Psychology. Applied psychology is a modular course, meaning that you will be assessed throughout the course using a mix of, internal assessment and external, exam assessments. Units studied include, Approaches in Psychology, Research methods, Health Psychology and Forensic Psychology. The optional topics chosen for A Level are Forensics, schizophrenia and Relationships.

Extracurricular Activities

Students are offered opportunities such as visits to tutor 2 u conferences, trips to London & Shrewsbury prison to complement some of their topics studied throughout A Level.
