Careers @ Cardinal

At Cardinal Heenan Sixth Form, we are committed to preparing our students for life beyond school. Our careers programme is designed to inspire ambition, provide meaningful experiences, and support every student in making informed decisions about their future.

Our Year 12 and 13 students move beyond simply acquiring knowledge — the emphasis is on applying what they have learnt and demonstrating their skills in real and meaningful contexts.

Our Aim

We aim to ensure that every student leaves sixth form with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to take their next step — whether that’s university, a degree apprenticeship, or employment. By the end of their time with us, our students will be well prepared to thrive in higher education, training, or the workplace.

Throughout Year 12 and Year 13, students are encouraged to:

  • Apply classroom learning to real-world situations through work experience, projects and assignments.

  • Demonstrate transferable skills such as leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication in both academic and professional settings.

  • Showcase achievements through UCAS personal statements, CVs, apprenticeship applications, and professional platforms like LinkedIn.

  • Engage with employers and universities via talks, workshops, and virtual programmes, putting their knowledge into practice and gaining valuable feedback.

  • Build evidence of success on platforms such as Unifrog, helping them reflect on their progress and present their strengths to future employers or universities.

Our Careers Programme Includes:

  • Personalised Guidance – One-to-one careers advice, regular mentoring, and tailored support for university, apprenticeship, or employment applications.
  • UCAS & Post-18 Pathways – Dedicated support with UCAS applications, including personal statements, course choices, and decision-making. We also guide students through alternatives such as apprenticeships, gap years, and employment.
  • Unifrog Platform – All students have access to Unifrog, our one-stop platform for researching universities, apprenticeships, and careers, and for recording skills, achievements, and experiences.
  • Employer Encounters & Work Experience – Opportunities to take part in work placements, employer-led workshops, and enterprise activities to develop workplace skills and confidence.
  • Speakers & Events – We work with organisations such as Speakers for Schools and Springpod to offer inspiring talks and virtual work experience opportunities with leading professionals and employers.
  • Careers & Enterprise Links – Through the Careers & Enterprise Company, we connect our students with local businesses and industry experts to broaden their understanding of the labour market
