Interview date: Week commencing 29 June 2026

Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School is a thriving and highly inclusive 11–18 Catholic school with a strong sense of community and shared purpose.

Our recent Ofsted inspection highlighted that:

  • “Leaders have created a highly inclusive culture where pupils are well known, cared for and supported.”
  • “Pupils feel safe, valued and happy in an incredibly welcoming environment.”
  • “Staff are well trained to adapt teaching so all pupils can access an ambitious curriculum.”

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking school, contribute to whole-school improvement and work collaboratively with senior leaders to shape inclusive provision within the school.

We are now seeking to appoint an experienced and passionate leader to join our Senior Leadership Team. This is a senior leadership role with strategic responsibility for SEND, building on these strengths and driving the next phase of our development.

Working closely with the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher – Inclusion, you will lead and develop high-quality inclusive practice across the school, ensuring that all pupils – particularly those with additional needs are fully supported to achieve their potential. You will provide strategic direction, line management and professional development for SEND, while working with subject and pastoral leaders to embed quality-first class teaching for SEND learners across the curriculum.

The Role

The role combines strategic leadership and operational delivery, including oversight of EHCP’s admissions, funding, data, external agency partnerships and staff development. You will be a visible and influential leader, championing high expectations, strong pastoral support and inclusive teaching practices throughout the school.

This is a key strategic leadership position where you will:

  • Lead and develop SEND provision across the school
  • Drive inclusion and remove barriers to learning
  • Ensure all pupils, particularly those with SEND, thrive academically and personally
  • Contribute to whole-school leadership and improvement

What We Offer

  • A school with a strong, inclusive ethos and clear values
  • Pupils who are respectful, engaged and eager to learn
  • A culture where staff feel supported and valued
  • A leadership team committed to professional development and wellbeing
  • A vibrant school with outstanding facilities.
  • The opportunity to join a thriving SENCO department.
  • A welcoming staff culture, where we focus on supporting each other to grow and develop as teachers and aspiring leaders, with regular opportunities for staff to collaborate and share best practice.
  • An environment where pupils have an excellent attitude to learning where they can grow academically and personally. Pupils’ behaviour and safety was judged by Ofsted as ‘Outstanding’.
  • Pupils who, through the wide and diverse academic and extra-curricular opportunities they are offered, grow as individuals and happily contribute to the school community.
  • Opportunities to regularly develop your own professional practice through in-house CPD.

We Are Looking for Someone Who:

  • Is passionate about inclusion and improving life chances
  • Has a strong track record of impact for pupils with SEND
  • Can lead strategically and inspire others
  • Is committed to working in partnership with families and external agencies
