Overview

The purpose of the WJEC Level 3 Applied Certificate in Criminology is to provide learners with an introduction to criminal justice and to give a context for humanities learning. Together with other relevant qualifications, such as GCE Law, Psychology and Sociology, it develops the understanding to support entry to higher education courses in the humanities sector.

Aims

To understand crime in the real world using relevant examples and cases of criminality. The curriculum also intends to give students the opportunity to learn about different careers in the area with the use of practical experience and work placements.

Curriculum

The exam board for your Criminology course is EDUQAS. This is a modular course, meaning that you will be assessed throughout the course using a mix of controlled, internal assessment and external, exam assessments. Units studied include, Changing awareness of crime, Criminological theories, Crime Scene to Courtroom & Crime & Punishment.

Extracurricular/ super-curricular activities and information

Students are offered opportunities such as visits from the University of Law who host a criminal investigation day, trips to London & Shrewsbury prison to complement their studies into crime and punishment.
