KS3 Curriculum

Year 7

Our pupils should understand what makes a performance effective and how to apply these principles to their own and others’ work. They should develop the confidence and interest to get involved in exercise, sports and activities out of school and in later life, and understand and apply the long-term health benefits of physical activity. Students will develop this understanding through a rotation of activities and working through My Personal Best Programme

My Personal Best

This is ME - Believing in myself. We look to raise aspirations while developing our pupil’s personal skills and behaviour. In year 7 we look at key principles that underpin

My Personal Best:  - Believing in Myself

Skills targeted are: resilience, responsibility, self-motivation, integrity and self-management. These personal skill developments will be taught through a broad range of activities and competitions: • Athletics/ X Country/ Healthy for Life/ Gymnastics • Football/ Rugby/Cricket/ Basketball/ Handball/ Dodgeball • Healthy for Life Programme nutrition, training programmes, fitness tests

The boys will also experience competition through Inter-form in activities such as: x country, football, badminton, table tennis, dodgeball, cricket, short tennis.

Year 8

In year 8 our students will build upon the knowledge, understanding and skills in the activities taught in year 7 including rules and regulations in each of the activities. Pupil's will also run through a battery of fitness tests to monitor their health related and physical skills. These scores will be recorded and monitored over the key stage 3 so progress can be observed against their own previous date and against national standards

My Personal Best

In year 8 My Personal Best will focus on Social Me aspect of the programme. Pupils will have a focus in lessons of understanding and working with others. This will develop our student's empathy and interpersonal skills.

The areas of Social Me pupils will develop are: Communication, collaboration, empathy and motivating/ influencing others.

Areas of activity taught in year 8:

  • Athletics/ x country/ Badminton/ Short Tennis/ table tennis
  • Football/ Rugby/Cricket/ dodgeball/ basketball
  • Fitness testing / Nutrition/ training programmes

The boys will also experience competition through Inter-form in activities such as: x country, football, badminton, table tennis, dodgeball, cricket, short tennis.

Year 9

In year 9 My Personal Best will focus on Thinking Me aspect of the programme. Pupils will have a focus in lessons of thinking rationally and imaginatively. This will develop our student's creative thinking and problem-solving skills and hopefully entrepreneurial spirit.

KS4 Curriculum

Year 10

Year 10 pupils will develop a variety of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in team and individual games There will be opportunities to develop students Leadership skills in a range of environments which present intellectual and physical challenges and which encourage pupils to work in a team, building on trust and developing skills to solve problems. Pupils will evaluate their performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement across a range of physical activities to achieve their personal best Throughout the year, pupils will continue to take part regularly in competitive sports and activities outside school through community links or sports clubs. Pupils will be taught the short term and long-term effects of exercise on the body system. Understand the components of a balanced diet and understand the effect of diet and hydration on energy use in physical activity. .

These skills will be taught through a range of activities: Football, Fitness, Badminton, Athletics, Handball, Cricket and Basketball.

Year 11

Year 11 pupils will build upon the tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in team and individual games that was taught in year 10 There will be opportunities to further develop students leadership skills in a range of environments which present intellectual and physical challenges and which encourage pupils to work in a team, building on trust and developing skills to solve problems. Pupils will continue to evaluate their performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement across a range of physical activities to achieve their personal best Throughout the year, pupils will continue to take part regularly in competitive sports during lessons and after school. Pupils will be develop their knowledge on the short-term and long-term effects of exercise on the body system.
